Lil Wayne vs. W.E.B. DuBois

27th August 2012 0 Comments By Dr. Andre M. Perry Contributing Columnist This week, a Hampton University dean banned its MBA students from wearing dreadlocks and cornrows. But the politics of hair involve more than just conflicts between generations. This is about who gets to shape professionalism, gender and race. In his magnum opus, Souls of Black Folk, W.E.B. DuBois penned How does it feel to be a problem? DuBois believed he needed to see himself through the tinted glasses of racism as a Black man. He also found a need to see himself as Americanthe conflict of double consciousness. Wearing dreadlocks or cornrows can be at odds with the assumptions of being Americ

Lil Wayne Producers Drew And Infamous Sue Young Money

Lil Wayne 's Tha Carter III, while continually celebrated for its success, continues to be marred in controversy. In a story that sounds all too familiar, album producers Drew and Infamous are reportedly suing Young Money for unpaid royalties. The two beat makers often work in tandem, and as a team produced tracks like Wayne's 2008 song "Mr. Carter," featuring Jay-Z and his rocked-out "Prom Queen" single, but TMZ broke the news on Saturday that Andrew "Drew" Correa and Marcos "Infamous" Rodriguez filed two separate lawsuits against Weezy's Young Money Entertainment. Correa claims that he signed with Young Money in 2008 to produce music for the label and its artists. He has since contributed to Tunechi's Carter III, Rebirth and I Am Not a Human Being LPs as well as Birdman's 2009 offering, Priceless. The producer says that while he was paid some of the royalties owed to him that his expected payments stopped coming. Rodri
