Grammy-winning rapper T.I. and Bad Boy Records' French Montana recently reacted to dicey words Lil Wayne had for New York City and placed further context into his true feelings.
In Tip's perspective, Weezy F. Baby's issues with the Empire State likely stem from getting arrested, convicted and serving nearly a year behind bars on an gun possession charge.
"You gotta understand where a man coming from. I was in Arkansas. I ain't been back since. I'm not saying I support anyone not liking New York. What I'm saying is, people who haven't gone through that process of having their freedom taken from you and the whole process, the legal process, the incarceration process, you have to take all this into consideration. The people in the city, it could be the jurisdiction over the city. These stakes are too high and it's just too difficult to move around here." (Hot 97)
Hometown rapper French Montana shared a similar stance to Wayne's remarks.
"I mean if I was to go to New Orleans and catch a gun charge, I think there might be a point in time when I get sick and tired, and be like man I hate New Orleans," explained French Montana. "It might not mean I hate the people, it's that's what I hate. Sometimes you might be like I hate Jamaican food, I'm not saying! I hate Jamaicans. I think it go like that and I think that's why nobody really got at him yet for saying that." (Rapfix)
Recently, Brooklyn rapper Fabolous poked fun at Wayne's comments on his current "So NY" anthem.
"I'm so New York, Weezy probably don't like me, I'm so New York, Weezy probably don't like me," Fab raps. "For my city, emphasis on my city/You gotta go to LA if you looking for Diddy/You gotta check CT if you looking for Fiddy/N*ggas in Paris, but what about the city/I'm so NY like the folks who make Playstation/Hope y'all enjoyed your summer vacation..." ("So NY")
Last month, the Young Money boss ruffled some feathers when he revealed his dislike of New York City.
Lil Wayne has never been shy about expressing his disdain for New York, but that didn't stop Tunechi from rolling through the Roseland Ballroom to rock the stage with Nicki Minaj. "Flat out: I don't like New York," Weezy told MTV News on Monday night while in Las Vegas to introduce his new line of sneakers with Supra. Wayne's distaste for the Big Apple performances is understandable, considering it was his 2007 gun arrest after a NYC show that led to his 2010 incarceration. "You're not supposed to leave it at, 'Everything happens for a reason,' " Wayne said of how the failed Summer Jam set turned into a blessing in disguise. "I believe everything happens for a reason and then you make the most of that reason. I think we made the most of it last week." (MTV)
