Lil Wayne drops Dedication 4 mixtape, reschedules Lower 9th Ward skate park opening
Lil Waynes latest mixtape, the fourth in his Dedication series hosted by DJ Drama, dropped Monday after a brief delay which, Wayne has said, was engineered purposely so as not to distract from the release of rapper 2 Chainz debut album. It worked; the album, Based on a T.R.U. Story, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 the last week of August. 2 Chainz, who is signed to Kanye Wests G.O.O.D. Music label, is also friendly with Young Money/ Cash Money he appeared on Nicki Minajs track Beez In The Trap, the third single from her sophomore release Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded and opened for her on her most recent tour.
Lil Wayne performs at the New Orleans Arena on April 14, 2011.
2 Chainz also turns up on Dedication 4, which plays host to a large cast of fancy guest stars, including Birdman, Young Jeezy, J. Cole and Nicki, whose verse on the track Mercy raised some eyebrows with an apparent endorsement of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
(Has financial success turned Nicki into MC GOP? Or is the ever-tricky rapper just trying on a new persona?)
Lil Wayne was sc! heduled to visit New Orleans on August 29 for the official ribbon-cutting of his new skate park, located in the Lower 9th Ward Village. Due to Hurricane Isaac, the event was rescheduled for September 26.
