Lil Wayne passes Elvis Presleys Billboard Hot 100 record

While Elvis Presley is still the King, he now has one less record on his list of achievements. Rapper Lil Wayne now holds the record for the most Billboard Hot 100 hits by an artist, but there is a catch.

Billboard reported that with the success of Games Celebration, Weezy now has 109 Hot 100 singles, beating Presleys previous record of 108. Lil Wayne is one of several artists featured on the track, along with Chris Brown, Tyga and Wiz Khalifa and reached No. 82 this week.

However, the catch is that Lil Wayne has so many Hot 100 hits because he has been featured on a countless number of singles by other artists. MTV News notes that only 42 of his 109 hits are solo recordings. The remaining 67 were recorded with other artists.

It should be noted that the Glee cast currently holds the overall record for the most Hot 100 hits with 204 since the show started in 2009.

Of course, the King would likely have sealed the record if many of his most familiar songs were released after the Hot 100 began in 1958. Heartbreak Hotel, Dont Be Cruel, Hound Dog and many others were all released before 1958. Presleys Hot 100 hits were released from 1958 to 2003, when a remix of Rubberneckin hit No. 94. By comparison, Lil Wayne made his Hot 100 debut 13 years ago in 1999.

Lil Wayne has scored two No. 1s on the hot 100, including Lollipop and Down with Jay Sean.
