Lil Wayne's 'Tha Carter IV' Certified Double Platinum After Three Months

Lil Waynes Tha Carter IV album, which was released to generally mixed reviews earlier this year, has officially gone double platinum in the US.

RIAA certified the Young Money boss ninth studio album multi-platinum after only three months of release, with the LP selling close to 1,700,000 copies to date.

Initially upon its release in August this year Tha Carter IV achieved 300,000 downloads in its first four days online, which broke an iTunes record previously set by Jay-Z and Kanye Wests Watch the Throne in the US.

Tha Carter IV went on to top the Billboard 200 selling 964,000 copies in its first week, and achieved the highest first-week album sales since Lady Gaga's Born This Way.

It held on to pole position in its second week, despite a 77% decrease in sales, shifting 219,000 copies.
