Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne may have a new Trukfit clothing line under his belt, however, the self-proclaimed "Best Rapper Alive" crowned two hip-hop artists he feels deserve "Most Stylish" props.
In Weezy F. Baby's perspective, the most stylish crown is split between Chicago's Kanye West and Atlanta's Andre 3000.
He has got his own skateboard clothing line, but when it comes to fashion Lil Wayne reckons Kanye West is far more stylish. "I do not consider myself the most stylish rapper out there," he said. "I'd say if I had to consider someone the most stylish rapper out there, I would definitely say that would be a Kanye West or an Andre 3000." The rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr, reckons his personal style has evolved throughout his career. "I was one of the guys that would 'geek chic' it every now and then... Now I'm just more into whatever works for me. I think that's just age." (ITN)
Back in February, Andre 3000 gave his take on the perception of fashion.
"Style is taking what you have, kind of what you're given, and playing with it," Dre said in a Gillette promotional video. "That's what style is, just kinda finding what's in you and putting it out into something you have that nobody else has. You kind of just have to love it and nurture it and say, 'This is me and I'm just! gonna b last it out to the world!' Facial hair is a part of getting up in the morning. It took me a long time to actually grow hair on my face, so when I got it, I didn't want to get rid of it! I think it's something that frames your face up. ... At the moment, me and my barber kind of separated in a way 'cause my hair's growing. [laughs] So, I don't go by and get haircuts. I haven't gone by in about three years. Maybe. I do my own grooming at home so he reaches out every now and again. He's one less customer right now." (Gillette)
Earlier this year, Mr. West showcased his own clothing line at Paris Fashion Week.
Ms. Kardashian was sitting in the front row at Mr. West's late-night showing at Paris Fashion Week, along with Alicia Keys, Sean Combs, Common and Azealia Banks, so maybe that gives some idea of the target customer he has in mind for a collection that seemed desperately trying to project both an aura of coolness and easy availability. Not that Mr. West was saying. (New York Times)
Yeezy and Dre to the side, rap mogul Russell Simmons recently co-signd Wayne's new Trukfit clothing line.
"It's just that the young men's brands that had culture in them have grown up and all these young men's brands have a shelf life," Simmons said in a video. "So all of them, Sean John's, Rocawear's and Phat Farms, those things have a certain cultural space and a lot of young people have grown out of it. A lot of young people have new inspirations and they need something cultural that speaks to them. I think what Lil Wayne does speaks to the next generation and I think there's a big, giant white space. ... The billions of dollars in young men's brands, a lot of those people are buying Ralph [Lauren] now or they'r! e buying men's brands and there's no new inspiration. So I came to see what Lil Wayne was doing. He's hitting the nail right on the head. It's exactly what they need. The young people need something from their generation that's inspiring, speaks their language and that's what this brand does." (Karmaloop TV)
