Lil Wayne - Lil Wayne: 'nicki Minaj And All Women Should Be Treated With Respect'
Rapper Lil Wayne has opened up about his decision to pull Nicki Minaj from the bill at Hot 97's Summer Jam in New York earlier this month (Jun12), insisting no one who works with him will be "disrespected".
Minaj was scheduled to headline the gig with Nas, Foxy Brown, Cam'ron and Lil Wayne himself as special guests, but her label boss axed the show at the last minute after hearing that Hot 97 Dj Peter Rosenberg had criticised Minaj and her style of rap-pop earlier in the day.
Speaking with Mtv News, Wayne says, "First and foremost, Nicki Minaj is a female. I don't know what anyone else believes, but I believe females deserve the ultimate respect at all times, no matter when or where or how."
Minaj has already spoken out about the Summer Jam no-show during an hour-long radio chat with Hot 97 Dj Funkmaster Flex, in which she stated, "When you want our team to come to your show, treat us with respect."
Former Fugees star Lauryn Hill replaced Minaj as the Summer Jam headliner. Hill has thrown her support behind the Starships hitmaker, tweeting, "I don't have details on exactly what transpired between the station and the artists, but I do support artists standing by their beliefs, and walking with integrity."
