Lil Wayne is writing a book about his 2010 prison term

What did Lil Wayne do to kill time during the eight months he spent behind bars on New Yorks Rikers Island? He kept a diary of his thoughts and feelings, strange people he met, his plans, his family, his children, his past, present and future, and hes compiling those notes into a book for Grand Central Publishing.

The rapper, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. in New Orleans in 1982, will call the book Gone Till November, a reference to the month in 2010 when he was released from prison four months early for good behavior.

Wayne pleaded guilty to a weapons charge stemming from a loaded handgun police found on his tour bus following a 2007 New York concert. He entered Rikers Island in March 2010.

We are thrilled to be publishing Waynes prison memoir, said Ben Greenberg, the publishers executive editor. He kept detailed journals of his inner and outer life while he was on Rikers Island, and they certainly tell a story. They are revealing.

The journal for the last month of his incarceration might contain a lot of soul searching, since Wayne spent it in solitary confinement after contraband, a digital music charger and headphones, was found in his cell. That was October, the same month his label released I Am Not a Human Being, a CD reportedly recorded before Wayne was jailed.

Wayne was released on Nov. 4, 2010, rolled away in a $300,000 Maybach car, jetted to Arizona the next morning to sign paperwork related to his probation there for a 2008 drug charge, then flew back to New Or! leans to take in a Hornets game before flying home to Miami to celebrate.

Wayne is no stranger to journalism: He previously has written about his interest in sports for ESPN The Magazine.

The book is scheduled to drop in November, two years after Waynes release from prison.
