Bad Boy Records rapper French Montana made an interesting proclamation recently, suggesting Lil Wayne's perceived drop in album sales is a sign the music industry is dwindling.

In Montana's perspective, Wayne's inability to sell close to a million copies like his 2008 Tha Carter III LP is proof the biz is in a slump.

Do you think Excuse My French will be well received from the onset or will it be a slow burn? I don't know how it is but it doesn't matter what it sells. It'll still be a slower burn because of the way the game is. I mean, look at Lil Wayne who went from selling a million [for Tha Carter III] the first week to selling 200,000 [for I Am Not A Human Being II]. I feel like the game's not the same. It's not the art. You just got to have a good product. The only thing that's gonna sell is good product. (MTV Hive)

Despite Montana's argument, Wayne managed to sell nearly a million copies in 2011 with his Tha Carter! IV solo effort.

Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV debuted on the chart this week at No. 1. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Weezy's long-awaited new album has sold 965,300 copies after just a week of availability. (SOHH Sales Wrap)

Coincidentally, a year prior, Weezy's initial I Am Not A Human Being sold just 110,000 when released digitally.

Imprisoned rapper Lil Wayne's digital-only I Am Not A Human Being release debuted on the chart this week at No. 2 while Kenny Chesney's Hemingway's Whiskey opened atop the competition with 183,500. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Wayne's album has sold 110,300 copies in the past seven days. (SOHH Sales Wrap)

Last summer, Wayne expalined the content which makes up his two I Am Not A Human Being releases.

"I Am Not A Human Being II, that's what I'm workin' on right now, actually I'm finished. The difference between [this] album and the last I Am Not a Human Being would be the music wasn't rushed," Wayne told MTV News on June 16 in Atlanta after he finished performing at Hot 107.9's Birthday Bash. "Last time the music was rushed because I had to take that eight-month vacation on that island so we had rushed the music, but this time we didn't rush the music." (MTV)
