Lil Wayne on the train: commuters caught in cultural experiment learn 'How to Love' on the subway

Image

Local commuters were a captive audience earlier this month when a Los Angeles-based cultural experiment took to the Metro in a coordinated effort to answer the question, "What the hell is love anyway?" The Love Project , launched by local advertising agency Muse Communications , wants to get "to the heart of what love really means," and they're doing it by asking a lot of people a lot of questions, and by performing Lil Wayne songs on public transportation. Jo Muse, chairman and chief creative officer at Muse Communications, explained The Love Project in a press releaseas "a way to explore culture and share it with a broader audience," She went on to describe the experiment as an opportunity to "create something completely independent of client work." The project's collection of video interviews take on "dating, religion, family, race, s

Subway [Video] Friday, Dec 30, 2011 7:53PM Written by Cyrus Langhorne Weeks after New York City pedestrian Terrane Hicks raised eyebrows performing Kanye West 's "N*ggas In Pars" in public, a group of Los Angeles people have pulled a similar stunt with Lil Wayne 's "How to Love" hit. In a new viral video , Los Angeles subway riders perform Weezy's record amongst unknowing riders. The Love Project, launched by L.A. local advertising agency Muse Communications, created a cultural experiment where those taking part tried to get "to the heart of what love really means" by performing the Young Money CEO's hit song on public transportation. Yung Joc Loses Exclusive Lil Wayne Track In Studio Burglary

Image
Yung Joc has revealed that he lost exclusives tracks in his studio burglary, including a collaboration with Lil Wayne, and also shoots down rumours that he staged the incident to claim insurance. The rapper was shocked a couple of weeks ago to learn that his studio had been robbed of more than $70,000 worth of equipment , and posted a photo on Twitter of the empty room. In the aftermath of the robbery, Joc was subjected to claims that it was an inside job so that he could claim the money through insurance. Denying these rumours, Joc told WSBTV: " I've been seeing stories where people say this is about insurance fraud. The truth is, I did not have insurance. I was in the process of deciding who I wanted an insurance policy with." He also revealed the items he lost that are completely irreplaceable, saying: " I've got songs with Jasmine Sullivan, Lil Wayne, Pitbull - I mean, big name artists." Joc is offering a $2,500 reward for whoever gives his drives back.

Video: Flashmob Performs Lil Wayne's 'How to Love' on the Red Line

Image
A group of Angelenos stormed the Red Line this month hoping to share the love with commuters by singing an a capella version of Lil Wayne's "How to Love" on the Red Line. KCET's Kelly Simpson joined the crew and can be seen singing a solo and wrote this dispatch from the flashmob event: Subway performers traditionally pull out a collection plate after the final note, so L.A. passengers were surprised -- and somewhat wary -- of music for music's sake and the subsequent cheer from random strangers. In Los Angeles especially, a car-centric city anomalous with human interaction, people seem unaccustomed to social interactions in public spaces. With this in mind, I was nervous during our first performance, which took place at peak travel hours, but soon took great pleasure in singing to strangers. There's overlooked power in making a complete stranger smile, or in one case, dance. For more videos from The Love Project visit the group's website .

Video: Did Drake and Lil Wayne Start Mall Brawl?

*A huge brawl broke out at the massive Mall of America in Minnesota, supposedly having to do with rap stars Drake and Lil Wayne. And it all went down on Monday, one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Nine people were arrested out of the mob of shoppers who fought in several areas of the plaza. It all started in the food court but quickly moved to other parts of the complex. Witnesses said the fight started after a rumor that Drake and Lil Wayne were coming to the mall. THR Music Editor's Top 10 Singles of 2011

Ease of access has made a vast library of music instantly available and increasingly difficult to curate -- there's so much crap out there that most casual listeners can easily get lost without a proper guide. Enter: pop radio 2011, which for the first time in a long time, offered diversity among its playlists, even if repetition still ruled. Our pick for top song? Nicki Minaj 's "Super Bass," one of 14 commercially-released singles to feature the female rapper's name in 2011. It was the sugary antidote to Adele's depression, the girl's comeback to big ballers who winced, "Look At Me Now," and something an eight-year-old could sing as competently as her adult mother. In short, "Super Bass," along with these 10 more songs, made our hearts go "Boom, badoom, boom, boom, badoom, boom" this year -- and here's hoping for more irregular heart beats in 2012. 1. News: Lil Wayne Balls Hard W/ Mystery Wifey, "[She] Held On To Her Man..." Wednesday, Dec 28, 2011 11:10AM Written by Cyrus Langhorne Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne may have multiple baby mothers but his rumored new love interest, Dhea , was spotted next to the Young Money star at a recent Los Angeles Lakers basketball game. Based on snapshots from the Sunday (December 25) game, Wayne and Dhea appear to still be a couple . Lil Wayne and his girlfriend Dhea were sitting courtside as the Lakers fell to the Chicago Bulls 88-87 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA. Weezy's wifey Dhea held on to her man as they watched the game. The couple beamed with love, but the paps did catch an awkward moment when Dhea realized that rappers don't hold hands. During a break in action, Kanye West stopped by to chop it up with the 29-year-old "How To Love" rapper. Maybe they were talking about setting style trends. Mall of America Fight Video: Drake and Lil Wayne to Blame?

Image
There was a big brawl at the Mall of America today, and after Christmas sales and rumors of Drake and Lil Wayne showing up are apparently to blame. Authorities report more than 20 people were involved in a scuffle near the food court. Luckily, no one was hurt and police report there were also a few other fights yesterday as well. And, no, the celebs were never slated to show up. The scene at the Mall of America (via NYDN) "Any time you have a large group of people together things can happen," Commander Mark Stehlik with Bloomington Police said via USA Today . "But this is highly unusual." A witness says it was kind of like a food fight at one point. "There were drinks thrown on the floor and chairs being thrown everywhere," said Tess Dessalgne. "Everyone started running towards the fight." Nine people were reportedly taken into custody when all was said and done and the melee was handled by about 30 police officers. At no point did the whole ma

Weezy finds redemption

- Lil Wayne, Rogers Arena, April 27. - - - As if Rogers Arena isn't already under enough stress with the Canucks in the Stanley Cup playoffs, the colossal venue also played host to one of the most wildly anticipated music events of the year: Lil Wayne's I Am Still Music Vancouver tour stop. Having served eight months behind bars last year for keeping a loaded gun on his tour bus, I Am Still Music was almost an act of redemption after being absent for so long. Needless to say, expectations were high. Travis Barker was the first opener, who drummed alongside a DJ and provided decent background music for the sparse early crowd. Rick Ross followed up with his usual slew of intimidating verses and renowned sly grunt (which, amazingly, has earned its own Twitter account). Once the entire crowd had finally arrived and got settled, complete with double-sided tape (for the ladies) and Axe pomade (for the bros), the real spectacle could commence. After an explosion of fireworks, Weezy em

NBA Back! Lil Wayne, Kanye West and More Kickin' It Courtside

This past weekend, Lil Wayne and Kanye West had the blogs buzzing after they were both spotted at the L.A. Lakers vs. Chicago Bulls game. Weezy was joined by his girlfriend Dhea, while Yeezy was enjoying the game with his pops. We understand the excitement of seeing Wayne and Kanye in the same building at a non-music related event, even though we frequently catch rappers taking in the NBA games from courtside. Lil Wayne feat. Bruno Mars: 'Mirror' - Single review

But who does the Young Money boss call when he needs a bit of stardust sprinkled over his own hip-hop cuts? Lil Wayne and Drake hook up with bevy of women for dinner

In celebration of his album Take Care going platinum, Drake had dinner Wednesday night with pal Lil Wayne at Prime 112 , joined by a group of friends including some very good looking women. On Thursday, Drake was seen lunching at sister restaurant Prime Italian . Bachelor Pad contestant Gia Allemand and her beau, Orlando Magic star Ryan Anderson , were spotted Sunday at The Fontainebleaus Bleau Bar after a day spent poolside at the hotel. The two shared drinks inside for a few hours in the late afternoon, but a snafu with Allemands credit card caused them to opt for cash to settle the tab. With his sophomore album Take Care surpassing platinum sales this week, YMCMB's Canadian hip-hop star Drake unleashes the official video for the LP's bonus track, "The Motto" featuring his boss Lil Wayne and labelmate Tyga. The music video starts with a touching introduction by Bay legend Mac Dre's mother, Wanda Salvatto. "Andre, you wanted me to be a strong black woman. If you could see me now, sitting here in front of this camera, and the people that are in the room, you would be proud," Salvatto says, in dedication to her son. "This is just the beginning. I'm still here, and as long as I'm here, you'll be here." Then the Lamar Taylor and Hyghly Alleyne-directed clip kicks off with Drizzy heads to the Bay Area, cruising a drop-top low-low across one of the area's famous bridges before hooking up with E-40 and Mistah FAB who make cameos in the new video. Well "The Motto" clip arrived via interweb late last night, and, except for a poignant intro from Mac Dre's mother, it's pretty much what you'd expect. Drake drives around some bridges and stands around with FAB and E-40, to prove that he did, in fact, take a little Bay field trip for the weekend. Meanwhile Tunechi and Tyga sit alone in a parking lot in SOMA. And Amoeba Music is probably pretty happy. Also, green Uggs. Lil Wayne Debuts Dancing Skills In Drake's 'The Motto' Visuals Featuring Tyga

Image
Lil Wayne decided to loosen up for Drake's 'The Motto' music video, by showcasing his questionable dancing skills. Behind-the-scenes footage from the shoot were released last month but the full music video has been made available. The somewhat dull visuals show Drizzy driving around the city solo dolo, before cutting to Weezy sitting on the bonnet of his car at night. However, it is not only his dodgy dance moves that are questionable - he also sports some printed tight trousers and ridiculous bright green spaceman boots. Tyga is then given his shine towards the end of the visuals, performing to a hyped crowd. 'The Motto' is taken from Drizzy's latest album Take Care. What do you think of Weezy's dance moves? Betty Wright: Lil Wayne Has 'Total Recall,' LP Is a 'Movie'

Image
Diana Levine If Betty Wright comes off as no-nonsense, abrupt even, she's not in a rush to apologize about it. "When I'm in recording sessions, I'm real good for saying, 'Child, y'all are going to have to slow that down,'" muses the 57-year-old soul singer-songwriter-producer. "I have to be honest and real. That's just me." Maybe such brazenness comes from the fact that Wright has nothing to prove. After all, the Miami native and otherworldly vocalist -- that's a four-octave vocal range, thank you very much -- has been an R&B fixture ever since she released her 1971 breakthrough single 'Clean Up Woman.' And the influential standards continued: 'Where Is the Love,' 'Tonight Is the Night' and 'No Pain No Gain.' Wright would go on to win a Grammy and become one of the first female artists to record and release a gold album on her own label -- 1988's 'Mother Wit.' Through the years, she'
